Golf and Rugby Join 2016 Olympic Programme

The sports of golf and rugby sevens have been voted today by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) Session for inclusion in the programme of the 2016 Olympic Games – awarded last Friday to Rio de Janeiro. The two sports had been recommended by the IOC Executive Board (EB) in August following an extensive evaluation by the Olympic Programme Commission of the seven sports seeking to enter the programme.
Global Appeal

“Both golf and rugby are very popular sports with global appeal and a strong ethic,” said IOC President Jacques Rogge. “They will be great additions to the Games.” The two sports, voted on separately in alphabetical order of the sports, golf then rugby, received a simple majority of votes cast by the members of the Session. The result of the first vote was not revealed to the Session until the vote for the second sport had taken place.
Absolutely Delighted

“The International Golf Federation is absolutely delighted by today’s results. We thank the IOC for the thorough process and we are looking forward to playing our part as a member of the Olympic Movement,” said Peter Dawson, Secretary General of the International Golf Federation. “This is great for golf and we hope to be of great benefit to the Olympic Games as well.”
Looking Forward to Rio 2016

Bernard Lapasset, President of the International Rugby Board, said: “I am so delighted and proud. My thanks to the IOC members for their wonderful support. Rugby is honoured to be a part of the Olympic Sports Programme and we are already looking forward to Rio 2016.” "

Youth Camp Preparation at Thurs practice!

All,

I've been getting a good response from you all regarding help with the youth camp. Still have a few people I haven't heard from and we are still well short of the total number of people we need.
I am going to use the first part of this Thursday's practice as our preparation for the camp so we can go over what is expected of everyone and run drills etc. This does not mean practice is cancelled, quite the opposite. Whether you are able to help with the camp or not, we need everyone there. If you usually come to practice don't use this as an excuse to sit out. We will be practicing. We will be running drills and playing a game. I want to prep the volunteers and get them used to coaching a small group and refereeing games etc.
If you have volunteered, please be at the Rossville game field BY 7pm ready to go. The camp is the following week and time is tight!!!

EVERYONE NEEDS TO BE AT PRACTICE THURSDAY BY 7PM!

See you there.

Jared.

Up Coming Events for Nooga

Well we've finished the spring season and are now looking forward to a few weeks off before we start the summer season.

First, we're going to have our spring banquet and golf outing on Saturday, May 2. For the golfing event, we'll be playing 18 holes at Eagle Bend. Tee off will be at 9:30 am and the cost is $35.00. If you are planning on playing, please let me know so we can get an accurate head count. Later, at :6:30, we will have our banquet at the Waterford apartment's clubhouse. We're planning on doing it as a covered dish BYOB again, this worked well for our Christmas party that we decided to do it again.

Second, the Chattanooga RFC is going to host a youth clinic June 2 - 6. This camp will be open to ages 6 - 12 and we are working in conjunction with Chattanooga Parks and Recreation to introduce the game of rugby to as many kids as possible. This is a real opportunity for us to promote both ourselves and the sport itself. if you have time to contribute, we would appreciate your time as we will need as many people as we can get to help with this event. We are hoping to use this to get the game in to the schools and then approach the high schools later this year to start their program for next spring. If you think you can help, please let me know.

Third, our annual 7's tournament is coming up July 24 - 26 at Cherokee farms in Lafayette. If you have never been to this, you are missing out on one of the best tournaments in the east. We have sold out the last 3 years and expect 20 men's and 16 women's team for the event. Clubs from as far as Michigan, Philadelphia, Florida, Chicago, Louisiana, and other great places have entered in previous years to make this tournament the best social on the east coast. Put it on your calendars and make plans to attend.

Thanks to everyone for their support of Chattanooga rugby and look forward to seeing you soon.

Jack

To Cindy

Hi Cindy,
I tried to contact you back but i couldn't get your e-mail (blogger won't let me). Anyways I have put the Schedule up here on the Blog, but I don't always have time to update things. So if you have any other question about something our website www.chattanoogarugby.com will always be up-to-date with all the info. It would be great to have your Grand son out for our home games.

Thank you for your comment.

ABC will broadcast the USA Sevens rugby tournament presented by Bridgestone as a one-hour special, on February 22 at 5 p.m. EST.

The USA Sevens event was held February 14-15 at San Diego’s PETCO Park and is the fourth of eight annual global tournaments in the annual International Rugby Board Sevens World Series circuit.  Sixteen elite international teams competed in 44 matches over the two days.

The one hour program is hosted by longtime rugby announcer Dave Sitton and international analyst Jonnie Cox, as well as a noted team of commentators for the match calls featuring Nigel Starmer-Smith, Wyn Gruffydd, Gareth Rees and Ray Viers.

The program will also feature an interview with IRB Chairman, Bernard Lapasset, regarding the IRB efforts to have Rugby Sevens added to the Olympic Games in 2016.

“Having a chance to showcase the premier event of one of the country’s fastest-growing sports is an enormous opportunity,” said Ray Peterson, managing director of the USA Sevens LLC.  “Rugby fans across America will now be able to watch their favorite teams compete and many new viewers will also be introduced to the dynamic game of rugby sevens.”
